Artist’s Statement:

Photography allows me to capture the details of what I see — reflections, symmetrical components and fleeting light. I frequently make pictures in low light situations both natural and man-made: sun and moon rises and -sets, fireworks, fairs, city lights, or movement through time and space. The latter create a "painted with light" effect that combines a sequence onto one frame in-camera. Details of a scene may be selectively lit by turning a camera flash or flashlight onto them. People moving through such a scene appear ghostlike. These techniques have been refined through practice, reading and course work. I wait for the best light, in the golden hours before sunrise and sunset, or in the aftermath of a Cape Ann storm. Recently I have become interested in High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography, in which multiple exposures of the same scene are combined in order to present all of the detail, much of which would otherwise be lost in the light or the shadows.
